I have a dual monitor setup, if I start MB on the left monitor, nothing is rendered. If I start it on the right monitor, rendering works... Reproducible with Ephy Canary as well. webkit://gpu renders fine on both. { "Version Information": { "WebKit version": "WebKitGTK 2.47.4 (

Note that the “good” monitor is always the one reported *first* to Wayland clients. I can get into a state where my monitor that is plugged using DisplayPort is always the “bad” one doing this: 1. Power off the monitor connected on DisplayPort. For my particular model (Asus MG24U) the video card will report that as a disconnection. The compositor removes its internal structures for this output. Now there is only one other monitor (Fujitsu/DVI) connected. 2. Power on back the monitor. The compositor gets a notification from the driver that a new display was attached, and it *appends* a structure for the Asus/DP monitor. 3. The compositor now reports the Fujitsu/DVI monitor first, the Asus/DP as second, when iterating the Wayland registry. - Trying to open an application with a web view on the second, “bad” monitor (Asus/DP) results in blank screen. 4. Physically disconnecting the *other* (Fujitsu/DVI) monitor, and reconnecting it back repeats the above process, but now this monitor is the *second* reported when iterating the Wayland registry. - Interestingly enough, now opening applications works on both monitors. But repeating steps 1-2 above always results in the monitor plugged on DisplayPort (the Asus) being in a “bad” state. From the observations above, it looks like some code inside WebKit may be enumerating things in an order different from that of the Wayland compositor, or making some assumption somewhere until the information is all gathered from the Wayland compositor before trying to initialize things.

Regardless, I am still quite sure it has to be the same or almost the same root cause.

This is related with fractional scaling btw. If I set my 4K monitor to 100% instead of 200% the issue does not happen.

gtk_widget_render is called once only when the issue happens... Also something I noticed, loading a new URL in a "blank/broken" webview actually works, whatever the monitor.

ThreadedCompositor::renderLayerTree() exits early because viewportSize is empty... It seems the WebPage::setSize() doesn't update the ThreadedCompositor::m_attributes... In a GTK3 build with MB starting on my 4K screen scaled at 2x, viewportSize=2048x1460 and scale is 2.0. In a GTK4 build with MB starting on my 4K screen scaled at 2x, viewportSize=0x0. If I force it to webPage.size() which is 1024x693 and webPage.deviceScaleFactor which is 2.0 then the WebView is rendered but clipped (I'll attach a screenshot).
