Does this only happen with nightly builds, or with shipping Safari too?

Nightly build only.... just checked Version 8.0 (10600.1.25.1, r176549) no longer has the problem.

The wind site  http://hint.fm/wind/  still loads slow...

hint.fm/wind was fixed today in bug 139140 (not sure why it wasn't fixed here, as we learned about the problem from your report).

Please file a new bug about cnbc.com, it seems unlikely that these issues have the same root cause.

Can you still reproduce this? I have just tried to load it and it seemed fine.

No... can not reproduce this problem and longer...
