Created attachment 161843 [details] Screenshot of error on iMac When attempting to visit the webgl website (http://www.webgl.com/reddit-webgl-barack-obama-ama-globe/) that shows President Obama's reddit hits in 3D, both native Safari and Webkit show an error and a stopped loading screen. The error is "Sorry, your graphics card doesn't support WebGL". However, if I open the same link in Chrome the website loads and I can manipulate the 3D globe without issue/error. I have recreated this scenario on both a 2009 iMac and a 2012 Macbook Pro Retina. Both computers are running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1 Screenshot attached.

I think that this is just an incorrect error message on the site. WebGL is not enabled by default in Safari, this has nothing to do with particular video cards. Please see <http://www.webkit.org/blog/603/webgl-now-available-in-webkit-nightlies/>.

I agree with you completely. I posted this 'bug' because I had already followed the directions provided by webkit.org. Even after entering "defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitWebGLEnabled -bool YES" from the CLI and reloading WebKit I still see the error. This occurred on two different Macs both running Mountain Lion.

Ah, perhaps the instructions are obsolete, the preference name may have changed. Will it work for you if you enable Develop menu in Safari, and then enable WebGL form this menu? WebGL on this site works for me in Safari 6 on a Retina MacBook Pro.

Same for me on an older Macbook Pro from 2011. It sounds like the instructions are out of date. I'll update them.
