When you click on one of the search results in Firefox, the window gets changes to show the results list in a sidebar and the actual web page clicked as the main content. (All in the same window) In WebKit, the sidebar gets split out into its own window.

Confirming, but reportedly, support for target="_search" is being removed even from WinIE: <http://blog.throbs.net/archive/2006/01/31/1536.aspx>. Sounds like a candidate for WONTFIX. See <http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/properties/target.asp> for the documentation.
