When you add a line-height to an inline element (for example an <a> element) and you place a block element inside this inline element, an extra line of whitespace is generated above and below the block item. This whitespace has the exact same height as the line-height placed on the inline element.

This appears to be fixed in recent WebKit nightlies (tested in version 5.1.3 — 7534.53.10, r108739).
