I can't tell if I have Webkit or Safari in the foreground as the menu bar app name shows as Safari.

That's because it is always Safari. WebKit nightlies don't include a browser, so the version of Safari that's installed on your machine is used. Please see <http://www.webkit.org/blog/101/back-to-basics/>.

I sort of understand - I'm not much of a techie. Maybe I need to put it in a different way. From my naive user point of view the difficulty is that I have two things running, one that I got from clicking the Webkit icon, the other from clicking the Safari icon. If I want to quit one I can't easily tell which to quit. It's not a big deal but annoying.
