Created attachment 87999 [details] Reader initial open glitch As discovered while working on Bug 57423. Using r82773 Nightly, go to the link provided and use the Reader function. When I try under 10.5.8 PPC, Reader is really messed up. It loads scrolled to the bottom initally and glitchy. I drag it back to the top, hit spacebar and it only advances about 10 pixels at a time. I press ESC to close Reader and if I click to reopen in it no longer appears at all even if I reload the page. I have to close the window or tab completely and load the link into a new window for Reader even to appear again, but with the same issues. The Reader sliding in glitchy details. Normally it just slides up from the bottom and stops at the top but now it slides up to where the bottom of the reader page is practically at the top of my screen with a weird shaded line in the middle and then it snaps back. See forthcoming screenshot. If I Disable Accelerated Compositing it works more like expected without the placement glitches but the spacebar still only moves about 10 pixels. Ok, after much downloading, here's where each problem shows up dating back to July 2010. r63606 - Last working version - Reader scroll at top, slides in normal, close and reopen works, spacebar works (r63606-r63640) - Reader now opens already scrolled to bottom (r67568-r67643) - Still scrolled to bottom, closing Reader and reopen does not display reader again (r70098-r70284) - Still scrolled to bottom, close and reopen does not display reader again, Now slides in glitchy (r75294-r75772) - Still scrolled to bottom, close and reopen does not display reader again, slides in glitchy, Now spacebar moves page small increment (r76727-r77034) - Still scrolled to bottom, close and reopen does not display reader again, slides in glitchy, spacebar does nothing (r77034-r77220) - Still scrolled to bottom, close and reopen does not display reader again, slides in glitchy, spacebar moves page small increment ...and it's like this through r82773.

Someone will need to file separate bugs for each of this issues. Since you're the original reporter, it would be best if you did that - would you be willing to file them?

Since they all affect one feature in a progressive fashion I wasn't sure if there was a root cause to some of the issues that may be resolved under one bug report. I've already spent a few hours on it gathering the information here and I don't really have more time to spend on it at the moment. So, if you want them split quickly someone else will have to take care of it. I don't even use the Reader feature, so it's not as pressing for me. Now, my other report about box-shadows not rendering is much more important to me. 8)

@Karl - I am not familar with this 'Reader' function, can you confirm whether it is still applicable bug or this 'Reader' functionality is gone or morphed. Or it is newer 'Reader View'. I think if it is 'Reader Viewer', I think if we still have issue, we might have newer bug report to track any similar issue and we can close this old one.

Let's take a recent blog post. 1. with Safari STP 189 2. Go to https://webkit.org/blog/14908/motionmark-1-3/ 3. Click on the document icon in the URL bar on the left side. Result: The reader view displays without issues. Scrolling is not an issue.
