Summary Web Inspector: Usability: "Enable Resource Tracking" messaging

Reported 2010-07-15 09:18:09 PDT
Created attachment 61670 [details] Mock of this feature Some of our users are reluctant from selecting "Always Enable" for resource tracking in the resources tab, because: a. they don't know that it can just as easily be disabled b. they don't know exactly what the impact of enabling it is ("will make page loading slower" is a very vague statement) With this bug I am suggesting to change the message from "Always Enable" to "Always Enable (You can disable it later with *TICK* button)" - See Attached Mock! We can also discuss changing "will make page loading slower" to something a little bit more meaningful, if we can come up with some benchmarks.

Where are you hearing these complaints? I don't think this mock helps, and just makes things confusing and visually cluttered. You are shwoing a button that isn't on screen yet, that is not in it's final location and expect the user to remember this in the future. I suggest just improving the wording in the gray text to mention you can disable it later. And maybe tweak the "slower" message. This "problem" isn't just for the Resources panel either. If we change one, we hould make similar changes to all the enable views.

Closing as invalid, as this bug pertains to the old inspector UI and/or its tests. Please file a new bug (https://www.webkit.org/new-inspector-bug) if the bug/feature/issue is still relevant to WebKit trunk.
