Ridley Combs
Reported 2010-06-29 21:31:20 PDT
When an HTML5 <video> with the controls attribute set to true is loaded, the "Loading..." text in the controls bar often displays for extended periods of time, during which Safari becomes unresponsive (color wheel). Tested in WebKit r62096 with Safari 5.

Can you provide a specific example URL where this happens?

http://tinyurl.com/23763sr (a FLV YouTube Video [Requires Perian], confirmed to happen when the video has not been previously viewed) http://tinyurl.com/36nstg3 (an MP4 YouTube Video, unconfirmed) Both videos are unrelated to the bug, but the bug appears in the 1st and in unconfirmed in the 2nd (makes me think this might be perian-related, I'll file a bug report in Perian if that can be confirmed).

If you are able to reproduce with the MP4 file, it would be helpful to try it again without Perian installed

Perian bug. Tested again on MP4 video without and with perian, bug doesn't occur. Tested with perian on FLV video, bug did occur. Unless WebKit is really doing something weird, and only with FLVs, this is a Perian issue. Sorry for the invalid bug, moving to trac.perian.org.
