Are you seeing this with the latest nightly build? What version of Flash do you have installed (did you install 10.1 beta?) What version of Mac OS X? I cannot reproduce this using r55339 on Mac OS X 10.6.2 with Flash 10.0 r42, but there were recent changes in this area, so I'm worried.

As you said, this is almost certainly caused by Flash. Since Flash ads usually change, the problem may not be reproducible each time. It would be most helpful if you could save and attach a WebArchive of a page that reproduces the problem (you may want to log out first to avoid attaching private information; and please make sure that the problem still happens for you when loading from this WebArchive).

Do you have Flash 10.1 beta 3 (it shipped about a week ago)? I've been unable to reproduce with both beta 2 and beta 3 so far, so any additional information you could provide would be very helpful.

Reproduced on r56431 with Flash Player 10.1 Beta 3 (MAC 10,1,51,95). It has happened on several sites recently, the best of which must be http://bit.ly/d8axf5 Pointer is lost instantly on DOM load there, no rollover required. I've noticed it happens on sites that have Flash banners swapping the mouse pointer. Mostly you can get the pointer back by rolling over the Flash banner once more. Even so, for the above URL, this is not the case.

Mouse pointer is also lost if you move out of the body area to Safari toolbars, e.g. a location bar. Only by moving over the Dock the mouse pointer is restored, so it's a rather serious issue indeed. Attaching the web archive for reproduction in a moment.

The problem with <http://bit.ly/d8axf5> also occurs in shipping Safari/WebKit 4.0.5, but only when running with Flash 10.1 beta in 32-bit mode. It's a regression in 64-bit mode.

This reason this broke in nightlies in 64 bit mode is that we fixed a bug where certain Cocoa events weren't dispatched to out of process plug-ins. Now 64 bit and 32 bit modes work the same in this regard, and expose this issue in Flash Player 10.1 beta. I'm closing this bug as INVALID as a non-WebKit issue (but thanks for reporting it!). This problem can be reported to Adobe, I think the bug tracker is at <http://bugs.adobe.com/flashplayer/>.
