Some of the existing tests may be portable, but the API's a bit different, so likely this will mean mostly a from-scratch set of tests.

Umbrella bug 34990 depends on this.

r63278 ported as many async DB tests as possible to sync DBs, and added a couple of new ones. I think we can close this bug, and open new ones for new tests/bug fixes, if needed.
