Description pastimage 2009-11-15 15:28:45 PST
Every time I go to my yahoo mail safari and webkit now freeze and I have to do a force quit. This has been going on for at least a month now or longer. I have had to start using another browser and hoped that having webkit would fix it but alas it has not. Am I the only one with this problem?

Can you please attach the spin log that is generated when you force quit the application while it is unresponsive? That will allow us to determine what is going on.

I hate to be this honest but I have no idea what you are talking about. Are you asking for the same thing I would send to apple in their report? From console?
Love to help just new to all of this. Please advise.
Matthew

There is (quite a bit of) text in a dialog that appears after you force quit Safari. Please save it into a file, and attach here.

I'm not sure about what you can get from Console, but if it's good for Apple, it could be useful for us, too :)

Could you please try updating to Safari 4.0.4 to see if this resolves the issue?
Comment 6 pastimage 2009-11-17 07:09:50 PST
Nope, that did not fix the problem

            9 at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch 2.1.08 + 37097 [0x91c0e9]
              9 at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch 2.1.08 + 57886 [0x92121e]

Actually, this spin log indicates that the freeze is inside LittleSnitch. You seem to have an old version (current is 2.2), please try updating and/or removing it altogether.

report after updating LS

I have done that and it still does the same thing. I am going to unblock an item in LS and se if that does the trick but I am guessing it will not.

From what I can tell and I am not 100% sure yet, but it seems that if Little Snitch blocks webcs.msg.yahoo.com then for whatever reason all of safari will freeze up. Interesting part is that does freeze unless this is allowed all the time.
If this is the case why and how is that allowed?
Comment 10 Alexey Proskuryakov 2009-11-18 13:14:00 PST
At this point, I think that the right course of action is to report the problem to Little Snitch developers.

> If this is the case why and how is that allowed?

Little Snitch includes a kernel extension, so it can do absolutely anything. In this particular case, maybe we could work around the freeze, but the code is partially closed source, so I'll file a bug for Apple to investigate this internally.

I have come to the conclusion that you are correct and LS is the problem. I have signed on three times now both under safari without webkit and allowed the connection and I have had no problem. I am amazed that this was the problem and that it has just now come up. I have used LS since about the time I first got this macbook and have used that email address along with LS for the same length of time an it seems to have happened all of a sudden. I can only conclude that Yahoo must have changed something and LS is seeing it in a different light. I will report it to LS and let them know what is going on as well.
I thank you for the help and for helping me realize that it is not safari.
Matthew
