screen recording Summary When performing a search via the Safari address bar in dark mode, a brief white flash appears before the search results load. This occurs consistently on websites with dark backgrounds and persists regardless of extensions like Dark Reader. Environment: OS: macOS 26.0.1 Browser: Safari 26.0.1 Hardware: MacBook Pro M3 Steps to Reproduce: Open Safari. Click the address bar and type a search query (e.g., using Google or DuckDuckGo as the default search engine). Press Enter to initiate the search. Observe the screen as the search results page loads. Expected Behavior The search results page should load seamlessly without any visual interruptions, maintaining the dark theme throughout the transition. Actual Behavior A brief white flash (lasting ~0.5 seconds) appears before the search results page loads, disrupting the dark mode experience. This is particularly noticeable on websites with dark backgrounds (e.g., DuckDuckGo, Google in dark mode). Additional Details: Frequency: Occurs on almost (practically)every address bar search. Extensions: Issue persists with Dark Reader disabled, ruling out extension-related causes. Tested with no other extensions active. Related Reports: Similar issues reported on Reddit (r/duckduckgo, Feb 2025), X (@TorsteinVi, Oct 2022), and MacRumors (2023), suggesting a longstanding WebKit rendering bug. Impact: Disrupts user experience, especially for dark mode users, causing visual discomfort.

Thank you for the report! As you said, this indeed is a Safari issue, not a WebKit one. Please report it to Apple via
https://feedbackassistant.apple.com
for Safari engineers to take a look.

Sorry, I misread, you are not talking about a flash in address bar, but a flash in the page? That would likely be a WebKit issue.

Hello Alexey, thank your for your quick answer. Yes, it is a flash in the page. I think It is very well visible in the attached screen recording, please take a look at it. I wasn't 100% sure also whether that is coming from Safari or Webkit

The screen recording certainly looks bad. However, I could not reproduce this myself. Perhaps others CC'ed on this bug have some insight.
