Created attachment 471675 [details] XDR Pro Safari 18 Bug Re: Safari 18 Have the latest MBP14 maxed out and connected to XDR Pro. When viewing webpages in Safari on my laptop xdr screen everything shows normally. When I drag the window to my XDR Pro many images look odd. Some images, logos etc are darkned. Almost like some sort of HDR bug even though they are not hdr images. Noticed at least with .png images not sure if affecting others. But seems at random. I'm at 100% brightness (same issue on any brightness though) on XDR with the default color profile. Also if I download one of the images that have the issue, if I download it and open it shows normal. Again fine on MBP XDR, and shows normal in Chrome on my XDR Pro external display. And didn't happen before upgrading to Sequoia. So it's specific to Safari 18 on XDR Pro. Attached is a screenshot of a random image where how it shows in safari on xdr pro vs how it looks if you download it and view on xdr pro/how it looks in chrome on xdr pro/looks on safari 18 on MBP XDR.

Created attachment 471676 [details] Sample Image Here is the actual image downloaded from Safari. Will load normally locally or MBP, but if you open in Safari 18 XDR Pro you will see. Happens to many images on websites at random seemingly, but consistently for specific images.

Thanks for reporting this bug. But I am not able to repro it by opening the attached image in Safari 18 on XDR Pro Display. Have you tried it in previous version of Safari and it worked for you?

I can reproduce this when moving the Safari window between screens.

For me the image shows gray when the Safari window is dragged onto my secondary screen, which is a non-HDR screen.

Chris, does this only affect grayscale images for you?

I was able to reproduce this bug only on macOS Sequoia beta. I could not reproduce it on Sonoma. To reproduce it, 1. I had to connect a MacBookAir/Sequoia to an external XDR display. 2. Then I showed the attached image in Safari on XDR display. 3. At the beginning the image was displayed with white background. 4. But after moving Safari window between the MacBookAir display and the XDR display, the background became gray. 5. Once the background became gray, this image (and possible other images) will be displayed always with gray background even after disconnecting the XDR display. 6. Restating the machine or reinstalling the OS did not fix the bug. Also when opening the attached sample image in Preview, the image inspector says this info about it: Color Model: Gray ColorSync profile: Generic Gray Gamma 2.2 Profile

Chris what macOS version you were using when reproducing this bug?

Good morning. Yes, affects many images on sites at random. Definetly not limited to non color images, as see it affecting plenty of images with color. The image provided just happened to be black and white. And yes, as noted above, I'm on Sequoia and that it didnt happen before upgrading. Only beta 1 was out when I reported this, but now beta 2 is out, and continues there if that is what you are asking. Also Webkit Preview for Sequoia just came out. Tried on that, and same issue. Glad others are able to reproduce and not a bug with my specific monitor that started the moment I upgraded to Sequoia.

The cause of this bug was outside of the WebKit Open Source project. The fix was shipped in macOS 15.2.
