Summary Sites Logout Automatically After Brief Amount of Time

Reported 2022-09-21 10:49:04 PDT
This bug started I believe sometime during the Ventura beta's this summer. Previously it only seemed to affect Safari, so used Safari Technology Preview where it didn't seem affected but now seems to affect that equally as well. When logging into websites after a brief amount of time when going back to the website logged out. Previously it seemed to happen after about 24 hours. But now happened within a few hours. One site it consistently happens on is feedly.com. Happens to other others but that site I visit countless times a day so notice it the most. Happens also to Twitter.com. Both sites I use Sign In with Apple. So it may be a bug related to using that? Would have to test more to see if using a different login method results in the same. Tried reinstalling the Ventura beta, but didn't resolve the issue. If there is a particular log I can provide that will help let me know or if there are files I can check permissions of or such to help resolve. I use extensions such as 1Blocker. In Safari settings have block all cookies "unchecked". Prevent cross site tracking "unchecked". Hide IP "checked".

Actually today in Web Tech Preview now on Feedly, it's logged me out again after only about 20 minutes. For Twitter this is happening as well. Usually on Twitter the same issue happens where I get logged out randomly, but sometimes like now in the other attachment it shows a black screen with the logo and only way to access again is to empty all the cache for twitter. Attaching screenshot of the console too since it notes an error about disk storage. I'm using 4.88TB of 8TB, so plenty of space, but perhaps this is part of the bug where Safari/Webkit thinks/doesn't have access to all the storage, and thus logging out or causing these issues and or maybe related to sites that are logged into Sign In with Apple.

More info. Went to feedly.com to try to login normally without sign in with apple to see if the auto logout would still occur. It said I have to login with AppleID. Clicked on it, then the box to login tried to appear but didn't and it froze. That is the Mac isn't froze but that window is including the other tabs in that window. That has happened before during the Ventura betas where the only way out is to force close safari. Will attach what I see in the error logs to see if that helps. Also another log from earlier that perhaps relates to the storage issue. I'm not sure if these are all connected or separate issues, but hopefully someone more versed than I can determine that.

While I've previously tried to do Disk Utility First Aid, but said no issues, that was on Macintosh HD. Last night I tried running on "Data" volume via Disk Recovery mode, and that time it did find that something was corrupt and said it resolved it. Today I have checked to see if perhaps that was the issue with Safari/Webkit was thinking there was no space available and causing all of these issues. So far, have not been asked to relogin into Feedly, Twitter or such. Fingers crossed that resolved. I'll wait a few days and if no issues (or does happen again) will let you know.

Unfortunately the issue persists. After doing the disk utility had a few days were it seemed everything was working normally vs getting logged out of sites within hours. But today again was logged out of feedly.com and gmail.com and facebook.com in "Safari". So seems the issue persists. In console saw some error about Cache Deletion. Not sure if that is related but would seem the issue is connected to cache being deleted (though I am not deleting any caches myself). Let me know any info I can provide.

This bug has been occurring for me for about a year now. It's an annoying bug especially when developing a site that requires authentication as it requires me to login about once an hour. Initially I assumed it has something to do with our auth system, but noticed there was no issues on Firefox or Chrome. Only recently have I noticed that it's been affecting other sites like Gmail, hence I was looking around if anyone else had issues. Turns out that a thread on MacRumors seems to have found the issue: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/safari-keeps-logging-me-out-of-all-sites.2343060/?post=31215522#post-31215522 It looks like it has something to do with the Developer Tools being activated. I assume it's due to cookie session timeout/deletion that's occurring. I've gone through the various configs for cookies/sessions but there's feature that's been enable to cause them to be reset. However turning off the Developer Tools does solve the issue. The issue only returns once they are enabled. Hence there does seem to be an issue within the Dev Tools that is causing this. Happy to supply logs, etc if this need further investigation.
