Expected: 
Some underline remains visible for the two 'i's surrounding the 'g'.

Actual:
Underline disappears.

Thanks for filing. I was able to reproduce using the latest version of Safari. The expected rendering appears in Chrome and Firefox browsers.

We might want to just draw the underline going through the text instead of having little smidge underlines.
