Summary RSS feed handling

Reported 2020-08-12 07:54:42 PDT
Created attachment 406456 [details] Safari RSS View Overview -------- Safari prompts you to open News.app when clicking on any RSS feeds. The problem with this is that News.app is not an RSS reader. Steps to Reproduce ------------------ 1. Visit https://bugs.webkit.org 2. Click on any of the orange feed icons like the one next to "Open bugs assigned to me" Actual Results -------------- When clicking a link to an RSS feed. Safari shows an alert with the message `Do you want to allow this page to open “News.app”?`. Clicking allow opens News.app, which displays the message "This content is not available in Apple News". Expected Results ---------------- Safari should do something useful. Good: Show the XML source, like when clicking on a JSON document. Better: Add a preference for a default RSS reader Best: Safari used to have a great default XSLT stylesheet for RSS feeds that it would show. Maybe something like this combined with an extra option in the sidebar to select an app that actually reads RSS feeds would be nice? I've attached an example of how it looked. Build Date & Hardware --------------------- macOS

Thank you for the report! This Safari behavior is not part of WebKit. Please report it to Apple via https://feedbackassistant.apple.com In the report, please do mention the exact Safari and macOS versions among other details. For what it's worth, these links open in an installed RSS reader for me, but I don't remember if I had to do anything to configure this.
