Created attachment 403111 [details] test case [WinCairo][Uniscribe] synthetic bold of embedded bitmap font glyphs are placed narrowly in complex text code path "MS Gothic", "MS PGothic" and "MS Mincho" fonts have embedded bitmap fonts. AppleWin doesn't use the embedded bitmap fonts.
