Cause not heavily investigated. Compare top graph in Chrome with Safari 11.1 https://teslainventory.teslastats.no/stats.php Red <path> uses @fill attribute with url pointing at the fragment identifier for a <lineargradient> element within <defs>

This actually works as expected in the trunk WebKit. It works also in Safari Technology Preview release 86.
