When you use javascript to turn the scrollbars back on the bars are not displayed until the user attempts to scroll the page again using the mousewheel. Dragging the page does not cause the scrollbars to appear.

Seems to work now, checked the following browsers; Safari Mac 5.0.3 (6533.19.4) Safari Win 5.0 (7533.16) Chrome Win 8.0.552.237 Chromium Mac 10.0.639.0 (71420)
