Demonstration of the freeze

Safari freezes for 2-3 seconds (sometimes more) when closing tab with text input in focus. Text input being any text field where you have to type. For example Twitter search bar or GitHub search bar.

This freeze doesn't happen if you do it when no text input field is selected. The tab closes instantly as it should.

This doesn't happen for me. Which version of macOS is this? Does it reproduce with Safari Technology Preview?
Comment 3 Nikita Voloboev 2019-05-23 02:35:12 PDT
macOS version 10.14.5

This doesn't happen on Safari Technology Preview.

I made sure all the same extensions are turned on in Safari Technology Preview as in Safari and Tech Preview doesn't have the freeze. The freeze is very apparent in Safari.

Just tested Safari with all extensions turned off in Safari. The freeze happens all the time. If any text field is focused in and you press cmd + t or cmd + w to either open or close a tab, the action is not instant.

Safari version 12.1.1
Comment 7 Antoine Quint 2019-05-23 03:39:36 PDT
This indicates that the issue will be fixed in a future version of Safari since Safari Technology Preview doesn't reproduce.
