Choosing the default display size of PDFs

Summary
Choosing the default display size of PDFs

When a PDF is displayed in Safari Technology Preview 60, it is scaled at full window width. This is totally annoying not only when using a 40" 4k-monitor. It would be a great advantage to be able to set the default display size to original. This was possible in earlier Safari versions so it should be implemented again!

Not only on my 40" 4k-monitor I dont want to count the pixel on the upper half of the PDF DIN A4 page, I want to see the whole page - automatically as default. This is the reason why I have a big monitor! And portrait mode is not the way I have my monitor standing on my desk. And I do not want to change my monitor stand to match Safaris way of displaying PDFs. And because I use Safari for my daily work I am surely not willing to spend half an hour a day to change the display mode to full page, because I am using many PDFs a day. This is the reason I chose P2 instead of P1. I can not understand why this behaviour can be in Safari after 10.7.5 the last 6 years. It was the reason I made no update until now.

Even the display mode (single page, single page continous, two pages, two pages continous) remembers not what the user wants to have. It always falls back to single page continously. And the display size against conventions (HTML and other) shows two marked options at the same time, see picture.

After waiting 5 years it would be nice when someone could fix this. I do not need a GUI, a developer setting would do it. ;-)

I am waiting here now over 6 years. And no natural intelligence has given any attention to this. Its a shame! Seems nobody is doing here something.

Still nothing that happens with this bug. Astonishing! No Safari extension avalable, nothing!

This should be fixed now in Safari Tech Preview (which has a new PDF viewer). We should open at actual size by default.

Why not letting the user select what he wants as default? Did you marry the wife your parents selected for you? Different use cases are normal and one default for all customers worldwide is a bit too simplifying. For me its no problem to give this only with option-key for advanced users. Or in the settings. All is better than one default. You are in the right direction ;-)

Yes, with Safari Technology Preview 206 the default changed to Single Page Continous, not actual size. And - like before - the default is not user definable and neither will be remembered. Already the next reload uses the default setting again. Whatever the user had just selected before is ignored. Lord, let it rain brains.

The Unified PDF Viewer can be changed to disabled in Feature Flags but then Safari is not able to display PDFs anymore. So no solution to change the behaviour of Safari.

You will have to open a new tab/window after toggling the feature, because it alters the web content sandbox.

Yes, thank you for the tip. When I have disabled the Unified PDF Viewer STP will display the PDF. And there still appear two checks: on automatic and original size. So this still is not fixed in the last 6 years.
