Safari is using standard Mac OS X font rendering. Chrome does their own thing, which doesn't match the OS.

<rdar://problem/25782949>
Because this is a bug in OS X's CoreGraphics platform framework, we have opened <rdar://problem/25782949> tracking that internally. This bugzilla site is for tracking bugs in WebKit, so <rdar://problem/25782949> should be used instead of this report. Closing.
> Just because the bug is inside CoreGraphics doesn't mean the bug is invalid. Reopening. INVALID is actually the resolution that we use for issues that are not bugs in WebKit.
