The RegExp constructor has two magic static properties, named "multiline" and "$*", that don't seem to have any observable effect. They exist on V8 also, with no observable effect as well, see: https://code.google.com/p/v8/issues/detail?id=3870 They do have an effect in SpiderMonkey, but it is expected to remove them: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1219757
