Description Bertrand Presles 2007-06-15 15:37:41 PDT
In forms elements, being a textfield or a textarea or anything else, when I try to type an international character like "é", it just displays "e" without any "´" on it. And of course when submitting, it doesn't take it in account neither (i.e: it takes the "e" without any "´" on it).

This has been tested with official Safari 3.0 Build, but also with latest Webkit nightly build (the one June 14th, r23527).

I cannot reproduce this in the latest nightly build. I can type é by first hitting Opt-e, then the letter e.

Personnally I use a spanish - ISO keyboard layout. It works instead when using the US layout and the Opt-e.

So it's a problem that reproduce with spanish - ISO layout. If you want to reproduce it, just add the Spanish - ISO layout as active keyboard layout and select it on the layout menu.

Then in that configuration, to obtain a é for example on your US keyboard configured with spanish layout, you need to press the key marked with ' and " (in the spanish keyboard this key is the key with the ´ that is used to put an acute accent on a letter) and then press e. You can use the Keyboard Viewer to help you deal with the spanish layout if you prefer.

This bug may reproduce with other layouts, but from what I tested it doesn't reproduce with US and French layouts, I achieved to reproduce it only with Spanish - ISO layout .

Thanks for the extra information! That should hopefully make the problem easier to reproduce.

Failed to repro with the Spanish-ISO keyboard layout.

You mean you can indeed type the ιΰηθ kind of character using the spanish-iso keyboard layout using the normal way to enter these kind of character with this keyboard layout (and not a tricky key combination)?

I recall that the normal way on this layout is to push the key with ΄ and ¨ on it which is just at the right of ρ key.

Typing this message, switching between layouts to achieve to type the special character, I just noticed that pressing the keys with ΄ or ¨ or with spanish-ISO layout, there is simply nothing that is displayed, while in other applications it react just exactly the same as an Opt-E with US layout (for the ΄ for example). Again I tested with both 3.0 official release and latest nightly build (r23527).

Mea culpa! I just thought that it may be coming from Saft as I use saft for Safari 3 Beta. And it indeed came from it, as when removing it, everything works ok...

So sorry for having made you lost your time on this issue which is in fact a Saft bug (that I'll then report to them) and not a Safari/Webkit one.
