To reproduce:
1. Go to http://mail.google.com/
2. Log in
The default favicon is displayed. But the HTML source includes this tag in the <head>:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/mail/images/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

Firefox and IE correctly show the custom favicon.

FWIW, I cannot reproduce this on Mac.

WebKit and Gmail both have evolved and if we still have any issue in relation to Favicons, we would have newer bug report but steps to reproduce or test case.
