Is this a cherry-pick of an upstream commit? If so could you please refer to it in the commit message?

If not - would you please put up a CL against upstream ANGLE making this change so it can be reviewed there first?

This one is "original content" by yours truly.
I'll check what's the status with contributing directly to upstream...
