Mail bugs/feature requests should be reported at bugreporter.apple.com

Oliver,

the last bug I filed was regarding Mail.app and was fixed by you.
it took over a month for you not to find the bug
but when the matter was raised in public, it was resolved within 24 hours.

if you cannot be more civil, you may find that this bug reporter moves elsewhere.

it's less than clear to those outside radar and apple where you chose to delineate your tasks, and I urge you to consider this in your response.
Comment 3 Oliver Hunt 2008-04-21 13:57:12 PDT
The last bug you filed (which you filed against Mail.app) was actually a webkit *bug* (which i note I had already fixed, i merely pointed to a temporary workaround) -- this bug report however is a *feature request* for Mail.

I'm not sure what i can say to the accusation that i am being uncivil -- I have spent a significant amount of time assisting you with this and other issues, I stated the reason for closing the bug as "INVALID", namely that it's a feature request for Mail, not WebKit.

Jay, "INVALID" is the resolution that is used to mean "Not a WebKit bug". I do not see anything impolite or uncivil in Oliver's response, though perhaps he could have explained the choice of resolution to prevent any confusion.

"Mail bugs/feature requests should be reported at bugreporter.apple.com"

this bug is already filed with bugreporter,
I had already asked Oliver for a comment on whose bug this was.
I received no response.
as a matter of curtesy I filed this bug here as well....

Once again I repeat, the current arrangement creates duplication, confusion and is neither simple nor clear.

of course I can just make an assumption, but then there's a failure to communicate, and little progress.

I don't see how the information you just provided supports your claim that Oliver was uncivil towards you. Anyway, this is not an appropriate forum to have this discussion. As noted, the original bug report is really an enhancement request for Mail and not something that WebKit can address. The bug you filed, <rdar://problem/5877048>, is being used to track that.
Comment 8 jay 2008-04-22 00:02:12 PDT
developers are expected to check bugs already filed, like everyone else.

it's less than polite to make a blunt demand, which in fact had already been fulfilled, had the author but checked first.
Comment 9 Mark Rowe (bdash) 2008-04-22 00:07:17 PDT
Jay, as I mentioned this is not an appropriate forum to have this discussion.

I did reply to your email, you asked what should happen, and i said very clearly: "Those two are mail bugs, they'll need to be filed trough bugreport.apple.com"

I'm not sure why you are finding it difficult to distinguish between a crash in webkit being a webkit bug, and a feature of Mail being a Mail bug.

As far as bugreporter goes -- you should just file any bugs or feature requests you have -- there are people who work out what bug reports are features, which are bugs, and which are feature requests -- they also track whether they're a duplicate of an existing issue. You do not need to worry about finding duplicates yourself. Hopefully that resolves any issues you have in the future.

>>I'm not sure why you are finding it difficult to distinguish between a crash in webkit being a webkit bug, and a feature of Mail being a Mail bug.

Mail.app crashed, why is that clearly "a crash in webkit"?
for you maybe, but not me yet...

it's not immediately clear where responsibility for a failure of Mail.app to display SVG images is to be laid.
It could be webkit, for instance <svg:use> is still not supported.
though apparently it is evidently (to you, but again not me) not in this case.

the point I am stressing, is to be tactful.
My clients have learning disabilities, perhaps you could spend some time with them, and eventually they might be able to supply even more useful bug reports...
