Summary Default Web Browser setting not working.

I restart my MacBook. I launch WebKit (r30654) and: (Preferences > General > Default Web Browser) already designates "WebKit". I leave it as it is. I launch Mail (3.2) and read mail which is like that at http://www.eros-os.com/pipermail/cap-conf/2008-February/000086.html (I will forward this mail to anyone who wants it.) I click on the first ftp link and Firefox 3.0 launches and responds! I quit Firefox, change Default from WebKit to WebKit.app and I still get Firefox. I choose "Select..." under "Default Web Browser" and navigate to the WebKit app. I still get Firefox. When I display the e-mail on the pipermail site, and click on the ftp link, WebKit fetches and renders the pdf file. Must I de-install Firefox? I did not run Firefox between launch and test. Who should this behavior be reported to?

Launching of the default browser is not handled by WebKit. You can probably fix your problem by changing your default FTP client, rather than the default browser. The Transmit FTP client (<http://www.panic.com/transmit/>) provides an option to do this in its preferences. I believe the free demo should be sufficient to try that theory out.
