method used was to open bug attachment in safari
save as .webarchive to ~/Library/Mail/Signature
using name of previous plain text signature.

struggling to get a handle on the issue.. apologies.
when I click new email I get the pussy.gif icon
however when I reply I get the thunder.svg icon

once I've sent the email to myself the new emails dont have the icons
the replytos or forwards do.

drafts display thunder.svg but once opened to edit switch to pussy.gif

can't see how to refine this bug
my apologies

phew

dragging an svg file into the signature dialogue results in an attachment.
ie it's not displayed
but that's probably another bug.

This sounds like a Mail.app bug, and should be dealt with via Radar.

CRASH: Radar Problem ID: 5807172
Comment 8 jay 2008-04-13 23:10:29 PDT
Radar reports:
You can't set the exact HTML source of your signature
though it is well documented that any html page can be saved with safari in ~/Library/Mail/Signatures to create an html signature.

because this is a crash it does need resolution

please remove if there is any security implication for me...
Comment 10 jay 2008-04-13 23:19:36 PDT
Crash instructions.
save attachment as per #2
now open preferences, signatures and mail.app consistently crashes on this machine.
confirmation would be helpful.
Comment 11 jay 2008-04-14 04:30:44 PDT
it would be useful to have an alternative to #2

radar reports:
You can't set the exact HTML source of your signature. You can use the font and color panels, drag and drop files, and copy/paste styled content.

Please let us know if you could reproduce if you remove ~/Library/Mail/Signatures and create the signature from Mail?
