Summary REGRESSION (r27761-r27786): Cannot load RSS feeds using nightly build
Darren Collins
Reported 2007-11-26 13:54:09 PST
RSS feeds are not displayed using Win32 Safari 3.0.4 with nightly WebKit builds between r27786 and r28023 (latest available). I get the following error message. Safari can’t open the page “feed://news.netcraft.com/index.rdf”. The error was: “unknown error” (CFURLErrorDomain:305) Example feeds tested are feed://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml feed://news.netcraft.com/index.rdf This worked fine with Win32 Safari 3.0.4 r27761 and earlier. I have not tested on non Windows platforms.

Confirmed with WebKit nightly build r28063 on Win XP SP2 and Safari 3.0.4 (523.12.9). Works fine using Safari 3.0.4 directly.

I don't see any suspicious commits in the relevant range (r22761-r27786). Guess we have to look at the non-suspcious ones.

Perhaps r27763 <http://trac.webkit.org/projects/webkit/changeset/27763>? It changed some ref-counting in a few places (made more use of Shared instead of hand-rolled ref-counting).

Darren, does this work again on recent nightly builds?

Problem still 100% reproducible using recent nightlies r28503 and r28382 on WinXP.

(In reply to comment #6) > Problem still 100% reproducible using recent nightlies r28503 and r28382 on > WinXP. I am seeing this as well. Using Safari 3.0.4 (523.12.9) with original WebKit on Windows XP SP2, the feed loads fine. With WebKit nightly r28503 (and the same software), I get a CFURLErrorDomain:305 error loading the feed.

This is a known incompatibility between current WebKit nightly builds and Safari for Windows 3.0.4 (with or without APPLE-SA-2007-12-17 Safari 3 Beta Update 3.0.4 Security Update). I have documented the issue on the WebKit Wiki as well: http://trac.webkit.org/projects/webkit/wiki/Known%20incompatibilities%20between%20open-source%20WebKit%20and%20Safari

This is fixed when using Safari 3.1 for Windows.

(In reply to comment #13) > This is fixed when using Safari 3.1 for Windows. > I can still see the bug when running the latest nightly (as of today) against 3.1. Safari can’t open the page “feed://images.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss”. The error was: “unknown error” (CFURLErrorDomain:303) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Help menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.
