If an "<a>" tag is present in an iframe where designMode is "on" and the user clicks on it, the link is followed, and the content in the iframe is replaced by the destination of the hyperlink. This is undesirable in HTML editing applications, because clicking on the link will destroy any changes that are made to the original HTML that was in the iframe.

This was fixed as bug 7156 (and several follow-up ones), although the old incompatible behavior is still the default - one has to tweak an undocumented preference to change it. I'm not sure if that's intended, CC'ing Tim.

That is intended, the preference default maintains the old WebKit behavior to prevent breaking WebKit clients that depend on this.
