I'm not sure which version of Webkit it is (my Safari browser says 5.04 and the Chrome is 11.0) and the behavior in those two browsers differs radically.

The text doesn't want to stretch and vary heights at the same time.

I was able to retrieve following test case from the URL using Wayback Archives and upload it to JSFiddle below:

It is still reproducible in Safari 15.5 on macOS 12.4 but it is working fine across Chrome Canary 104 and Firefox Nightly 102. Thanks!
