There are a few PPAs available, for instance this one provides CMake 2.8.12 on Precise: https://launchpad.net/~andykimpe/+archive/ubuntu/cmake?field.series_filter=precise Is that viable? For all it's worth, let's not add CMake to the JHBuild.
