I've been trying to find an explanation for this bug for months now. Finally I got it: when I configure a proxy in Google's Chromium (without authentication) and restart all webkit-gtk using applications (Liferea and Claws Mail::Fancy), then those applications will be unable to load external resources such as images. The text content is loaded though (CSS included it seems).
In Liferea I can select an image an try to open it in a separate tab. That's when I see the message: "Cannot resolve proxy hostname (myproxy.example.org 3128)". The proxy is working perfectly (I can use it with Chromium with no problem).
The following environment might be needed to trigger this bug: KDE 4.x (4.9.2), Chromium built with KDE support (kde proxy, kwallet etc.), WebKit-Gtk 1.8.3, Liferea or Claws Mail with the Fancy plugin.
