Created attachment 169466 [details] Test case reduction * Safari 6.0.1 (8536.26.14) * OSX 10.8.2 Gradient banding seems to be triggered by a applying a border to the element. Banding can be avoided by setting `background-repeat: no-repeat` on the element. Chrome and pre-Mountain Lion Safari don't show this behaviour.

Safari, Chrome, and Firefox all agree on rendering for this test case. I don't believe there is any remaining compatibility issue.
