In nightly builds, forms never get auto-filled in accordance with the Preferences.
AutoFill works correctly in Safari 2.0.3.

This is a known consequence of changes we had to make in tip of tree WebKit and Safari. It's listed on the wiki at <http://wiki.opendarwin.org/index.php/WebKit:Known_incompatibilities_between_open-source_WebKit_and_Safari>.
We don't currently plan to do the extra work to support this, so closing this bug as WONTFIX.
Daniele Metilli
I'm sorry, I should have read the wiki.
It's not really that needed, anyway.
John Sullivan
No need to be sorry, we do appreciate that you took the time to write a bug report.
Daniele Metilli
Thank you! :-D

I did a search for autofill before opening my bug report [Bug 12080]
In my case this is becoming a show stopper as I am constantly having to enter data again and again and again.

Unfortunately, the default search only includes open (confirmed) bugs, not closed or unconfirmed bugs. Simply change the "Status" select list to highlight all statuses (or no statuses) to search all bugs.

So, I was about to submit this bug then realized the term to search is "autofill".
Anyway, the wiki page referenced below no longer seems to exist (a great many things refer to the now-dead OpenDarwin project).
I'd like to know why autofill won't be supported in WebKit. Without it, I really can't use WebKit on a daily basis.

Note that the problem seems to be with Safari combined with WebKit nightly. Shiira 1.2.2 with WebKit nightly still autofills. Is the correct place to file the bug with Apple and Safari? I noticed that Maciej Stachowiak mentioned recently that there was an effort to "Stabilize the tree."

Autofill logic is in the browser, not in WebKit. That's why Shiira works but Safari on Tiger does not.
This is a known incompatibility between Safari and the nightly WebKit builds. Apple is aware of the issue. It may be fixed if Bug 12199 Comment #3 happens, but don't expect that. This is simply an inconvenience when using the WebKit nightly builds.
