Description Pavel Feldman 2010-07-07 00:13:03 PDT
This come from users feedback.

No matter what panel you are on, you might want to instantly use "Inspect Element" (lens) tool. The first thing that comes to mind is to make it a part of all panels in status bar. But it seems too disconnected (distanced) from the inspected window while in docked mode. Maybe that is the reason why FB has it on top.

So two options here:
1) Add it to the anchored part of the status bar (between "Undock" and "Show console")
2) Add it only while in docked mode, in between (Close) and "Elements" panel as a large lens icon.

Vote!

3) Add a shortcut for that? https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40617

Personally, I don't use Firebug's "Inspect Element" icon. I always use Cmd+Shift+C shortcut. In Web Inspector I don't use the icon either, I use "Inspect Element" menu item instead.

I agree with Nikita. We just need a shortcut and I think that will make people happy.

If there has to be a button, I prefer option #1.

I am the same way, and thats what we point people to. But the eyeglass does do things
a little differently (while hovering the page you get box highlighting), so it is useful. I
like all options presented, so my vote is useless =(. I will say that for (2) that the toolbar
getting a little crowded, but the reason to put it on top makes sense.

So what I hear is:

1) Make Cmd+Option+C shortcut work outside inspector (this is browser-specific, change is not a part of WebCore)
2) Add a tooltip with new shortcut to the existing lens status bar button
3) Wait
