The summary pretty much says it all. If you examine the text of this very message, you will see that what appear to be spaces are NOT ASCII 0x20, but rather 0xA0.
Alternatively, type something into a text box. Copy it. In a Terminal session, launch Vim. Paste the text with ``r!pbpaste.'' Position the cursor over a space, and use ``ga'' to see the ASCII value.
