Using Safari 4.0.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.11, and WebKit, Command-click on a link in a page or even the Bookmarks Bar does not open the page in a new Tab, despite the preferences file being set to do exactly that. This bug did not manifest until the installation of Safari 4 and is not resolved by disabling any plug-ins or "haxies".
Oddly, the problem does not manifest on a brand new User account, using a new preferences file for Safari 4, just as the regular User account was using a completely new preferences file.
It appears only to affect Mac OS X 10.4.11, as no instance has been reported with 10.5 or 10.6.

Since this doesn't happen on a new user account, it's unlikely that this is a WebKit bug. I suspect that some "Safari enhancer" is still active.

No, there are no Safari enhancers installed and the behavior is consistent, unless it's from a brand new User account. It's one in a series of WebKit bugs. None of these problems manifested until Safari 4 on 10.4.11.
