Summary:
The older non-atomic Unicode character combinations involving the "chillu" character produce incorrect glyphs in WebKit.
Steps:
1) Download and install the AAT font "Rachana" from the following URL:
http://sites.google.com/site/macmalayalam/
2) Visit the following URL:
http://sites.google.com/site/macmalayalam/home/font-test-page
3) Look for instances of a semi-circular diacritic in the last four lines (looks like a breve): e.g. ള്
4) Compare the rendering in Safari with that of Firefox at the same position.
I do not know if this is a font error, but I doubt it as Firefox 3.5 gets this correct (now that it supports AAT).
Given that Rachana is the ONLY font suitable for displaying the Malayalam script correctly on Mac OS X, we should support the font even if it means using hacks.
