according to the spec, remote files should be rendered for example: <use xlink:href='http://www.openicon.org/icon-ark/peepo-co-uk.svgz#chair' x='60%' y='25%' width='20%' height='20%' xlink:title='from: Peepo gets SVG ' /> is valid and should render compare with opera apologies if this is a dupe, had thought I had filed this or seen it. but cannot find today...

use remote file is now implemented in mozilla nightlies and wfm http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/roc/archives/2008/10/svg_bling_updat.html has worked in opera for around a year or more and is part of the svg1.1 spec
