I am able to reproduce this using the latest Webkit build (37469). When watching a video on youtube.com, or an embedded video on digg.com (still youtube), and I attempt to load another page in another tab, the browser pauses the video, gives me spinning beach-ball for 20-40 seconds, and then loads the page.
I have also experienced this without a video playing, although it seems to occur less often.
