I attempted to log off and sign on to a different gmail account but it would not let me sign off. This could be a gmail thing but it had never really happened to me before. I quit WebKit and then opened it again and could log on.

I am sure the Gmail has evolved since this and Web Standards also have added so much more to enhance this functionality.
Additionally Gmail is popular enough these days that if there would be any such problems, it would be quite known.
Due to lack of steps to reproduce, test case and also evolved browsers and web technologies. I am marking this as "RESOLVED WONTFIX". Thanks!
