The curl backend does not support https at the moment. It would be helpful if it does so we can test more sites than we currently can.

Not really a bug in the CURL backend but rather my distro-packaged libcurl's lack of support for https. Using a hand-compiled libcurl works fine for sites like gmail, etc..
Closing this bug.
