Unfortunately not sure if this is Safari 3 or WebKit. Steps: 1. Create a new directory "Downloads". 2. Open Safari Preferences. 3. Change "Save downloaded files to" to point to the Downloads folder. 4. Quit Safari. 5. Delete the new "Downloads" folder. 6. Open Safari. 7. Download a file. I'll attach a minimal sample of Safari.

Reproducible and easier steps: 1. Create a new directory "Downloads". 2. Open Safari Preferences. 3. Change "Save downloaded files to" to point to the Downloads folder. 4. Rename the new "Downloads" folder in the Finder. 5. Right click on a URL and select "Download Linked File".

This bug is inside Safari, not WebKit.
