http://jsfiddle.net/r6t88y45/ The left example uses SVG Filter and feGaussianBlur. The element has a compositing layer because of translateZ(0). The layer is clipped to the elements boundaries instead of the filter boundaries. The right example uses CSS Filters and blur(). The element is clipped correctly but you can see weird blurring on the edges which shouldn't happen.
