As the cursor move around the webkit window on GMail, repaints happen (including scroll bar) a few hundred pixels left of current position, and then it is painted correctly.
Produces a flashing effect that is most egregious.
The timing is window size dependent - bigger is slower and easier to see what's going on.
MacOS 10.8.2, MacBook Pro. Public gmail.
rjkroege has observed my instance of this effect.
The component is a wild ass guess.
