Hey James. Would you mind taking a look? I'm exposing this API to the main thread so I can query the current state. I'll put you on the Chromium patch so you can see what I'm doing there as well. Thanks!

layerTreeAsText is meant for human consumption (debugging), not programmatic access. What's your use case?
