There should be an option to collapse them. Any idea what the button should look like? This is more of cosmetics though, increasing timeline size does not address the real scaling issues. See https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56753 on that. I remember we were discussing timeline's zoom implemented for resources. That would also address nasty flickering upon scroll.
